What is Dry Eye Disease?

In short, Dry Eye Disease is a condition of the eye glands which can cause red itchy eyelids. It occurs when there are insufficient tears produced to keep the eyeball moist.

For more information on symptoms, causes and treatment, visit our FAQ’s page.

Dry Eye Disease is an inflammatory disease and if left untreated will get progressively worse over time. Eye drops are a temporary solution but do not fix the cause of the problem.

At Dry Eye Solution we address the root cause of the problem - the inflammation - using a multi-faceted approach; including a Lumenis Optima IPL (Intense Pulse Light), which is the only IPL with FDA & TGA approval for Dry Eye management. We are proud to offer the only Lumenis OptiLight on the North Shore - one of ten in Australia, and the sole Lumenis IPL on the Central Coast at our Erina clinic.

IPL is a non-invasive treatment.

IPL treats the areas surrounding the eye, not over the eye itself. The procedure is very gentle. Some patients may notice a mild tingling sensation during the procedure.

We follow the Toyos Method

We follow treatment protocols of the global leader in the treatment of Dry Eye disease, Dr Rolando Toyos (US).

Dr Toyos discovered that IPL (Intense Pulse Light) could not only be used for conditions like rosacea and facial rejuvenation but that the technology could help patients with Dry Eye disease. After 20 years of dedicated research, he has developed the best parameters for the treatment of Dry Eye Disease available in the world. He has been treating patients with IPL since 2008.

The Toyos protocols include;

  • Diet

  • Lifestyle

  • Environment

  • Supplements

  • IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Therapy

  • Meibomian Gland Expression

Dr Toyos teaches the importance of continual support being available to patients as they are on their journey from diagnosis to recovery and wellness.

In January 2020, Optometry Australia reported that 77 percent of Australians have suffered with dry eye, yet only 26 percent have seen an Optometrist about the latest treatment options available.

We offer the complete Dry Eye treatment, from diagnosis to wellness

Dry Eye causes significant discomfort

In Australia alone, it is estimated that over 4 million people suffer from dry eye disease and this number is on the rise.

If left untreated, symptoms and discomfort can worsen with damaging results to the eyeball.

Here at Dry Eye Solution, we help patients maintain optimum eye health and reduce dry eye symptoms with our highly safe and effective IPL treatment plan.

We create a bespoke dry eye treatment plan tailored to an individual’s severity of symptoms and needs.

Dry Eye treatment using the state-of-the-art IPL machine is highly effective. The IPL machine also has the ability to reduce symptoms of ocular rosacea, blepharitis and demodex which are contributing factors to Dry Eye Disease.

Delaying treatment worsens the symptoms

Working together for better eye health.

You do not need a referral to have a Dry Eye Assessment. We will send a report to your Optometrist, Ophthalmologist or GP at the end of your treatment.
